Crabbe canes golf course

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 29 June 2006

Near perfect conditions greeted players last Saturday for the Home Hardware Par event. 54 players took part with Ron Crabbe taking out the honours with an exceptional round of golf. Crabbe had 32 (4 under) on the back nine for + 6 which when combined with +2 on the front enabled him to finish one clear of the unlucky Kalev Kutt, whose score of +7 would win most par events.

Allanson Primary School Principal Crabbe deserves the win as he puts a great deal of thought and time into his golf. Included in his round was an eagle on the 10th as well as birdies on the 13th and 16th. The 10th also produced an eagle for Leon Moran.

Others to rate a mention were Michael Dowling +3, Phil Warburton, Greg Bell +2, Ross Davidson, Leon Moran, Brett Smith, Dean Rakich +1, David Laird, Garry Dawson, Chris Stewart, Ron Annandale and Ian Jones square.

Novelties were won by Dean Rakich, Trizzie Lawrence and Ross Brody for nearest to pins and Tony Barker-May and Garry Dawson for long putts.

The CCR was 71.

Graham Williams again showed the benefit of new clubs when he took out last Thursday’s Scroungers with 21 points. William’s form has been a revelation to all those who despair at times about poor form, and he had one to spare from the sweet swinging Kevin Ireland. Other to figure were Ron Annandale, Alan Davies, Ed Riley on 19, Jim Moyses, Bryan Simpson, Ray McGill, Alan Banks, Jim Stanley, Dean Rakich and Don Fraser on 18. Eddie Mills was a welcome addition to the ranks and he would have received a voucher but he simply handed in a blank card with 19 points.

Leslie Motion was a popular winner of the associates with 17 points

Novelties were won by Wayne 'Wedge' Waywood and Mick Pokrywka.

***

Tuesday’s Leisure Day was won again by Clayton Flynn, who makes a habit of winning these days, with 37 points from Kevin Ireland on 36 points. Vice President Stephen Ireland got a rare mention for his paltry 34 points along with Jay Robinson.

The very consistent Bryan Simpson won the 14 hole Veterans Competition with 29 points from Jim Hine on 25 point and Ross Brody, Phil Warburton, Ed Riley and Peter Gray on 24 points. Novelties were won by Phil Warburton, Ian Jones, Jeff Bebbington and Jim Hine.

Collie contested the South West Golf Pennant finals with mixed results last Sunday. Collie was successful in the B Grade winning 3/2 with the victorious players being David Laird, Danny Cheng and Greg Bell. In the C Grade Collie went down 1/4 with the only winner being Danny Clayton. David Pullan achieved the honour of being awarded E Grade player of the year. Also Collie-Manjimup was awarded the Champion Club in the South West zone.

Clive & Dave pull off countback win with 47 points

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 22 June 2006

It was a case of deja vu for Clive Pullan on Saturday when he combined with his son David to win the Tyco Flow Control 4BBB. Clive Pullan won the event last year and he has been in good form this season. David on the other hand has not saluted the judge for a few years and his win was warmly applauded in the clubhouse.

The Pullans had the very good score of 47 points, but they had to survive a countback from a couple of wily old foxes in Ed Riley and Peter Gray, who also recorded the same score. The Pullans came home with 25 points on the back nine while Riley and Gray managed a most respectable 23 points.

Scoring was surprisingly good on a day marred by a thick smoke haze and other pairs to feature included Fred Bronickis / Chris Bliss, Dan Clayton / Hudson Hopewell, Garry Dawson / Steve Wallace, Matt Harker / Ash Stewart, Barry Sheppard / Dale Miffling, 46 points, Trevor McCormick / Dave Czerniawsky, Bill Hunter / Ross Davidson and Trizzy Lawrence / Ross Brody on 45 points.

The novelties included the unheard of outstanding feat of the talented Matt Harker, who won all three nearest the pins on the par 3 holes - and he went on to birdie each hole. Long putts were won by Chris Bliss and Dale Miffling.

A slight concern at the moment is the inability or neglect of some players to pay their side bets at the end of the game. If you are prepared to bet you should be prepared to pay out if you lose!

It was good to see the number of players total in the sixties again and hopefully this trend will continue.

***

In last Thursdays Scroungers it was pleasing to see one of the regular players get up for a well deserved win when Rodney “Toona” Simmonds scored 21 points. 'Toona' beat his course chauffeur Brian Banks into second place. 'Banger' with 19 points defeated Dave 'Choppa' Czerniawsky and the consistent Ed Riley on a countback.

“Wily” Riley is rarely out of the prizemoney, and Ed does a very good job as head Scrounger which is greatly appreciated by all!

In the associates June Pike had the good score of 21 points to just edge out the consistent Bev Moyses and rapidly improving Rhonda McGill on 20 points

Novelties were won by Butch Fraser and Tony Barker-May.

***

Tuesday’s Leisure Day was won by Noddy Moyle who had 37 points to defeat the erratic hooker David Broadbent on 36 points and Frank Battista on 34 points.

Jim Tyler was successful in taking out the Tuesday Veterans competition with a score of 28 points from Des Hebb, John Wray and Alan Banks, all of whom had 26 points. Novelties were won by Alan Davies for a great birdie on 4 and Ed Riley, Harry Hadfield and Les McGill.

***

Last Sunday the annual Muja vs Kwinana match for the Ted Strong trophy was played. There was a vast array of trophies and everyone who played had an excellent day thanks to the organisation of Ian Milne. Better scores for the day included Kim Metcalfe and Ian Milne on 37 points, Alan Davies on 36 points while in the women Jeanette Flavel had 36 points to win from Dion Tadena on 34 points.

The organisers would like to thank the many generous sponsors for a great day.

***

Pennants were played in Manjimup on Sunday with good results recorded by all teams. This was the final qualifying match and a number of teams look like making the finals. The club appreciates the efforts of all members who have represented the club in Pennants during the year.

***

Tony Barker-May has already organised a table for the quiz night on July 21st and they have been installed as favourites in the pre market betting to win again. Members are asked to support this event and should see Stephen Ireland for table bookings.

Editor’s Note: while we’re assured quiz question security has been upgraded at the Collie Mail, with a full time guard on the manila folder and the managing editor / quizmaster’s laptop, a better bet would be the Collie Mail team to win again.

Bell chimes in

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 15 June 2006

Club stalwart Greg Bell made the most of what could only be described as a difficult layout to record a very meritorious victory in Saturday's 18 hole Stroke Collie Workers Club trophy.

Bell works very hard on all facets of his game and he recorded the fine score of 77 gross, nett 69. The round included a birdie on the par 5 third hole and a magnificent eagle on the eighth hole.

He was probably lucky he never had to putt on this hole, as many players experienced great difficulty in handling the Australian Open like pin placement on the eighth, and on a number of other holes.

The winner finished one clear of the very consistent Clayton Flynn, who edged out Noddy Moyle on a countback. Others to do well included Dean Rakich 71, David Laird 72, Stephen Edwards 73, Frank Battista, Matt Bernardi, Chris Stewart, Chris Bliss, Peter Gray, 74, Ed Riley, and Alan Banks, Danny Cheng, Bill Hunter and Ray Cooper 75.

Novelties winners were Chris Dunning, nearest-to –pin on 4, Charlie Serravite, nearest-to-pin on 7, Clayton Flynn, longest putt on 9, Peter Slater, nearest-to-pin on 14, and Stephen Edwards, longest putt on 18.

The event attracted a good field of 66 men and three Associates, and the difficulty of the course was reflected in the CCR of 73. In fact, after the game a couple of notable members were heard to be singing in the bar 'Shanks for the Memories' or was that 'Shanks for Coming'.

The event doubled as the second round of the Club Championships, and Greg Bell’s winning score of 77 combined with an 80 first round  for 157 gross was enough to propel him into second place behind leader Chris Stewart on 156. Others in the mix are last year's winner Hudson Hopewell on 159, and Danny Cheng on 160.

In the nett section Clayton Flynn leads on 141, with a host of others breathing down his neck including Wayne Waywood, who has yet to play his second round.

***

Ashley Hollins not only won last Thursday's Scroungers event on a countback but he also cleaned up the big money on offer in his playing group. Hollins was long and erratic but still managed 20 points to beat Clive Pullan.

There were a host of players on 18 points for third place, but no gross winner was recorded.

Better nett scores: Ashley Hollins 20; Clive Pullan 20; Frank Battista, Peter Gray, David Laird, George Davis, Noddy Moyle, Graham Williams 18 points. Rhonda McGill’s score of 19 points was the best among the eight Associates who played.

Novelty winners were Dean Rakich and Ross Brody.

***

Leisure Day is proving a good form guide for Saturdays events as winner Clayton Flynn on 35 points and runner-up Greg Bell on 32 points carried their solid games into the stroke round. Also recording 32 points was Dave 'Chopper' Czerniawsky. There was a promising field of 16 players on a day where the scoring failed to match the quality of the weather.

The Veterans 14 hole Stableford was won by the ever consistent Phil ' Steptoe' Warburton with 29 points from a gathering of players on 25 which included Ross Brody, Alan Davies, Ernie Sullivan, Peter Gray and Jim Hine. Novelties were won by No 4 Alan Davies, No 6 and 9 Phil Warburton and No 18 Jim Hine.

Stewart brothers combine for four ball win

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 8 June 2006

THE Stewart brothers – Chris and Ashley – combined well to win the 18 hole 4BBB event for the Outdoor World trophies at the golf club last Saturday.

Chris Stewart is a past club champion and plays off a five handicap, while his younger brother played off 16 last Saturday but as a result of appearing on the card 11 times has lost another stroke, to 15. The winners compiled 49 points to finish two clear of Tony Barker-May and Dave Brunswick, on 47, and well clear of three other combinations, which finished with 44 points.

Chris Stewart got the winners off to a good start with three pointers (two birdies and a par) on the opening three holes before Ashley took over to score on five of the next six hole to give them 25 points for the front nine. Another 24 on the back came courtesy of a strong finish. Ashley Stewart had three pointers on Nos 15, 16 and 17 before Chris iced the cake with a birdie three pointer on the final hole.

Runners-up Barker-May and Brunswick have done well in recent four-ball events and will no doubt greet the judge in the not too distant future.

Chris Stewart also dominated the novelties, winning nearest the pin on No. 14 and longest putt on No. 18, while Peter Slater (No.4) and Mark Williams (7) won the other nearest-the-pin prizes. Visitor Colin Brown claimed the longest putt on No. 9. There were 58 players in the field.

Better nett scores:

Chris and Ashley Stewart 49; Dave Brunswick-Tony Barker-May 47; Joe Italiano-Ray Cooper, Chris Shea-Barry Sheppard, Mark Malatesta-Jeff Graham 44; Ron Annandale-Garry Hammond , Colin Brown-Chris Dunning 43; Mark Williams-Paul Moyses 42.

***

Jim Moyses had “one of those days” last Thursday when 61 players participated in the nine hole Scroungers competition.

Moyses compiled 24 points to be well clear of Mark Malatesta and Colin Giblett, on 21 points, with a spin of the wheel giving Malatesta second spot. John Wray had 37 off the stick for the best gross score of 17 points, while Eric Annandale (No. 4) and Bryan Simpson (9) won the novelties.

Better nett scores:

Jim Moyses 24; Mark Malatesta, Colin Giblett 21; Eric Annandale, Alan Kent, David Brunswick, Paul Moyses, George Davis, Bryan Simpson 20.

Helen Annandale’s 18 points was the best score among the eight associates who participated.

***

Clayton Flynn finished two points better than club treasurer Greg Bell to win last week’s Tuesday Leisure Day 18 hole Stableford. Flynn had 37 points and Bell managed 35. Numbers in this event are slowly improving, with nine in the field last week.  Shift workers and others who can play on Tuesdays are urged to participate.

***

The Veterans 14 hole Stableford played on Tuesday of last week was contested by 17 players and won in fine style by Jeff Crowe.  Crowe had 29 points to win from Alan Davies and Jim Tyler, on 26. Further back, on 25, was Des Hebb, while 24 points got Ross Brody a mention. Novelty winners were Des Hebb (No. 4), Phil Warburton (6), Hugh Annandale (9) and Jim Tyler (18).

Grandfather Graham and 'Other' Slater in form

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 1 June 2006

JEFF Graham and Peter Slater took the honours when the Ken Smallwood sponsored Grandfathers and “Others” Stableford event was contested over 18 holes at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

Graham was one of a big contingent of “grandfathers” in the field of 65 and finished just one point ahead of his nearest rival, Alan Davies, who has for some time been trying to win the event. The left-handed Graham fits his golf in around lawn bowls commitments and relies on natural ability to remain competitive, something he has little difficulty achieving.

In the “Others” event, Slater had one of those days out when everything went to plan. He finished with 42 points being five points clear of his nearest rival, big David Broadbent who finished on 37. Slater’s performance was duly noted by the handicapper who reduced his handicap by two strokes – to 16.

The course rating for the day was 71.

Grandfathers to win novelties were Garry Dawson (No. 4), Phil Warburton (7), Ian Stewart (9), Peter Ellery (14) and Barry Sheppard (18). 'Others' to win novelties were Dean Rakich (2 and 18), Hudson Hopewell (7), Wayne Waywood (8) and Graeme Jackson (14).

Better nett scores:

Grandfathers: Jeff Graham 40; Alan Davies 39; Jim Moyses, Ed Riley, Greg Bell, Peter Gray, Ross Davidson 37; Clive Pullan, Ian Stewart, Barry Sheppard 35.

Others: Peter Slater 42; David Broadbent 37; Hudson Hopewell, Dean Rakich 36; Jim Atkinson 35.

Bill Hunter scored 20 points and top spot in the nine hole Scroungers event contested by 58 players last Thursday.

Hunter was one point ahead of Alan Kent and Colin Naysmith, with nine others following close behind on 18 points.

Clubs make a difference for Williams

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 25 May 2006

IT IS often claimed that improved technology should enable current day golfers to hit the ball further and straighter than their counterparts from bygone eras.

Members of Graham Williams’ golfing party last Saturday are certainly of this view.

Williams, sporting a brand new set of Callaway clubs, hit the ball longer and straighter to score 40 points and top spot in John Suckling’s Southern Financial Strategies 18 hole Stableford.

Golfers who have shared more than the odd round of golf with Williams were amazed at the difference. He opened with 20 points on the front nine and followed up with another 20 on the back where his only blemish was a wipe on No.16 where - inexplicably – he managed a dreaded shank into the bush with his second shot and never recovered.

Highlights of the round were four pointers following copybook golf from tee to green for birdies on Nos 3 and 13. The win cost him one handicap stroke, and he is now down to 16.

Veteran Ross Brody was just one shot behind Williams, on 39 points. Brody had a shot to spare from two other Veterans – Hugh Annandale and Jim Hine - who shared third spot with 38 points.

Williams also won the novelty for nearest the pin on No. 4, while Dean Rakich (7), Jim Moyses (9), Chris Shea (14) and Ray Alp (18) won the others.

Better nett scores:

Graham Williams 40; Ross Brody 39; Hugh Annandale, Jim Hine 38; Chris Shea, Hudson Hopewell 37; Bill Hunter, John Brown, Peter Slater 36; Jim Tyler, Ray Cooper, Ron Crabbe 35.

There were 63 players in the field and the course rating was 72.

***

Rob Ferris scored 21 points to win the nine hole Scroungers event played last Thursday. Ferris was one clear of four players on 20, with second spot going to Alan Banks on a spin of the wheel.

One of the others on 20, Chris Stewart, also managed to par the nine holes for the best gross score of 18 points.

Betty White and Kaye Farquhar were the top scorers in the Associates’ section, with 17 points.

There were 55 men and seven Associates in the field.

Better nett scores in the men’s event:

Rob Ferris 21; Alan Banks, Dean Rakich, Ross Davidson, Chris Stewart 20; Ray McGill, Jay Robinson, Tom Hardie, Stephen Farquhar, Greg Martin 18.

***

Michael Dowling hit the ball well for 38 points in the Tuesday Leisure Day Stableford contested last week. Four behind Dowling, on 34, was Trevor McCormick.

***

Phil Warburton continued his good form in the Veterans’ 14 hole event played on Tuesday of last week. He compiled 29 points to hold off Ray Alp, on 28, and Ed Riley, on 27, in the field of 20 players.

Des Hebb (No. 4), Phil Warburton (6), Alf Sanford (9) and Jeff Crowe (18) won the novelties.

Warburton wins Waywood war

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 18 May 2006

VETERAN Phil Warburton is one of the Collie Golf Club’s most consistent players. He is good off the tee and uses his woods to good effect around the fairways.  He rarely puts in a bad game, so it came as little surprise that the 11 handicapper had gone around in 79 shots in last Saturday’s 18 hole Stroke event for the Collie Freightlines trophy. The event was also the first round of the club championships.

In a close finish he held off hard working committee member Wayne Waywood, on a countback, after both had finished with nett 68s. Waywood could be considered unlucky as 68 is a very good score, especially considering the recent spate of ordinary scores which have been good enough to win events.

Charlie Serravite was at his best in returning 71 nett for third spot, while one of three on 72 was Chris Stewart who had the day’s best gross score of 77 to take the lead in the 2006 championships.

Club captain Stephen Farquhar played two great tee shots on the par three third and seventh holes to win the novelties on these holes. Other novelty winners were Charlie Serravite (No. 9), Jim Tyler (14) and Colin Naysmith (18).

Better nett scores:

Phil Warburton, Wayne Waywood 68; Charlie Serravite 70; Jim Tyler, David Laird, Clayton Flynn, Ashley Stewart, Stephen Edwards 71; Trevor McCormick, Ron Crabbe, Chris Stewart 72.

***

The Premier Hotel four ball best ball Stableford contested on Saturday, May 6, was won by Ron Crabbe and Ashley Stewart, with 49 points.

Others to figure in the finish were Paul McCallum and Garry Dawson 48, Ern Sullivan and Jim Hine 47, Trevor McCormick and David Laird 45, Ray Cooper and Graham Williams 44, Chris Stewart and Michael Dowling, Peter Slater and George Davis, and Ron Annandale and Dave Czerniawski 42. For further details, click here.

***

Last Thursday’s nine hole Scroungers event was won by Ken Woods, with 21 points, one better than the 20 points returned by Jim Tyler, David Brunswick and Peter Gray. Also in the allocation of vouchers were Colin Naysmith and Harry Hadfield, on 19, and Ed Riley and Wayne Waywood, on 18.

The previous Thursday’s event was won by John Wray on a spin of the wheel from Jim Hine after both had scored 21 points. Others to do well were Dave Czerniawsky, Chris Bliss 20, Eric Annandale, Ernie Sullivan, Alan Davies, Ed Riley and Ron Crabbe 19.

There were 13 Associates in the field of 65 and their best score was 16 points, scored by Leslie Motion, Jill Burgess, Eileen Riley and Betty White.

The Associates’ best score of the previous Thursday was the 19 returned by Shelley Barker-May.  She finished on ahead of Judy Dowling’s 18 points.

***

Greg Moyle and David Broadbent each scored 34 points in the 18 hole Leisure Day event held on Tuesday of last week.

A week earlier Greg Martin won the event with 37 points, three better than Dean Crowe’s 34.

***

Hugh Annandale won the Veterans’ 14 hole event contested on Tuesday of last week. Annandale compiled a handy 30 points to be one ahead of Peter Gray, on 29, and two better than Jim Tyler and Jim Hine, on 28. Ed Riley and John Corradetti, back on the fairways after a long absence, were also in good touch, scoring 27 points.

Annandale (No. 4), Phil Warburton (6), Ray Alp (9) and Alan Banks (18) won the novelties in the field of 22 players.

Crabbe and Stewart take out 4BBB

Regrettably, the Collie Mail didn't publish golf the golf column this week, so all The Hacker can provide are the raw results - and all he can comment on is his own round. We hope you will find it interesting, but suspect you won't.

A good field (considering it was the Eagles - Dockers derby that afternoon) of 25 pairs contested a 4BBB Stableford for Barry and Donna Piavanini's Premier Hotel Trophy, with school principal and low handicapper Ron Crabbe combining with the consistent Ashley Stewart to emerge triumphant with a fine 49 points. From that apex it was a point down each time to fifth, with cop turned train driver Paul McCallum making a strong return to Saturday golf in teaming with Gary Dawson for second place with 48 points, gentleman Ernie Sullivan and fellow veteran Jim Hine picking up a good 47 points in third, two very good players in Trevor McCormick and David Laird fourth with 46, and The Hacker and long suffering partner Dave Brunswick taking out fifth with 45.

For once, and perhaps for the first time, The Hacker contributed more to the game than Brunswick, who seems to have a bad case of the chip yips at the moment. The Hacker started in fine form, birdying the first and picking up par on the second for a seven point opening, and looking good on the third when he lined up a three wood third shot at the green from the middle of the fairway, before his natural game came to the fore - pulling the ball into the river, and almost doing the same with his fifth from the same spot, with only an A grade bounce from a tree saving him. The pair ended the front nine with just 19 points, including a couple of 4BBB faux pas one pointers - and you don't win a 4BBB with that kind of rubbish on your card.

The second nine was a different story, with Brunswick picking up a birdie for four points on 14, and The Hacker finishing with ten points on the final three holes, for a total of 26 and an overall score of 45. The Hacker scored on 11 holes for 29 points, a feat he is confident he will never repeat.

However, the highlight of the day was Ernie Sullivan's tee shot on 14. Ernie has never had a hole in one, and we suspect he has never been closer than on Saturday, when he put the ball a frustrating six inches from the hole.

Best scores for the day were Ron Crabbe & Ashley Stewart 49, Paul McCallum & Gary Dawson 48, Ernie Sullivan & Jim Hine 47, Trevor McCormick & David Laird 46, Tony Barker-May & Dave Brunswick 45, and Chris Stewart & Michael Dowling, Peter Slater & the ever smiling George Davis, and Ron Annandale and Dave 'Choppa' Czerniawsky all on 42.

Novelties were won by Leigh Bernardi (Pine Hauliers nearest to the pin, 4), Ray Cooper for the Quad Caps nearest to the pin on 7, Brian Banks and Dick Earl for equal long putts on 9, Ernie Sullivan's unbeatable tee shot for nearest to the pin on 14, and David Laird for the Collie Outdoor World longest putt on 18.

***

A terrific field of 67 men and 7 Associates lined up for the opening day of Winter Scroungers on Thursday, with John Wray winning with a spin of the wheel after he and Jim Hine tied with 21 points.

Dave Czerniawsky continued his good for with the R7 driver to pick up third on 20, again on a spin of the wheel from Chris Bliss, whose consistent afternoon practice with Fred Bronickis is beginning to pay dividends. Eric Annandale, Ernie Sullivan, Alan Davies, Ed Riley and Ron Crabbe all had 19 points. Best gross was John Wray, almost going round in par with 37.

Shelley Barker-May was the best of the Associates with 19 points, the voucher commencing the quest for another bottle of Scotch from the bar, closely followed by Judy Dowling on 18.

Novelties were won by Ed Riley (4), Des Hebb (6), Dave Brunswick (9), Nancy Lynn (14), and back from her Summer sojourn in Busselton, June Pike (18).

***

An excellent field of 22 Veterans played in the 14 hole Stableford on Tuesday when Hugh Annandale took out the day with 30 points, just shading Peter Gray's 29. Jim Hine and Jim Tyler tied for third with 28, and Ed Riley and John Coradetti came home with 27.

***

Just five players turned up for Leisure Day on Tuesday, Greg Martin's 37 being far too good second placed Dean Crowe's 34. The previous week a field of only four played, with Greg Moyle beating Dave Broadbent on countback after both finished with 34 points.

Pullan sneaks home to win Stableford

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 4 May 2006

CLIVE Pullan was the narrowest of winners in the 18 hole Stableford for the Direct Fuel Supplies trophy at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

In a three way countback, Pullan snuck home ahead of Michael Dowling and club captain Stephen Farquhar after all three had finished on 38 points.

In a generally low scoring event, the 61 players in the field battled to better two points a hole with only 11 recording scores of 36 or better.  The course rating was 72 (36 points).

Pullan made the most of his consistent tee shots and good putting to finish strongly over the back nine to put a wedge between himself, Dowling and Farquhar.

Mark Williams, who was runner up a week earlier, was one of three players on 37 points. Others to achieve this score were the in form Trevor McCormick and new member Barry Kononen.

Novelties were won by Mark Williams (No. 4), David Laird (7), Brian Banks (9), Dean Rakich (14) and Kalev Kutt (18).

Better nett scores:

Clive Pullan, Michael Dowling, Stephen Farquhar 38; Trevor McCormick, Mark Williams, Barry Kononen 37; Ed Riley, Ron Crabbe, Dean Rakich, Peter Gray, Jim Atkinson 36.

Ray Cooper is well know for running “hot” and “cold” and last Thursday he was red hot when winning the nine hole Scroungers event with 24 points.

The event, which was a novelty for Scroungers and played off the ladies’ tees, attracted 64 players, including a healthy field of ten Associates.

Organiser Ed Riley, who often bemoans his lack of length off the tee, appreciated the shorter distances and finished with 23 points to be just one behind the big hitting Cooper.

There were four others on 22 points – Dave Broadbent, Tony Barker-May, Stephen Farquhar and Alan Banks – and seven on 21, which was the cut off for the allocation of vouchers.

The best score in the Associates was 22 points, which was returned by Nancy Lynn and Annette Atherton.

Better scores in the men’s event:

Ray Cooper 24; Ed Riley 23; David Broadbent, Tony Barker-May, Stephen Farquhar, Alan Banks 22; Jim Hine, Frank Battista, Dave Czerniawsky, Michael Stocks, Dean Rakich, Ashley Stewart, Ron Crabbe 21.

Today (Thursday) will herald the start of winter Scroungers and a special trophy provided by Eric Annandale will be contested by the men.

***

Last week’s Anzac event, Diggers’ Day, which was again generously sponsored by ex serviceman and prominent club member John Wray, attracted a good field of 44 players.

The top “Digger” on the day was Ed Riley who finished with 36 points to win by one shot from Jim Hine and Jeff Graham, on 35, while the consistent Phil Warburton claimed fourth spot with 34 points.

In the “Others” event (for non Diggers), Clayton Flynn displayed some fine form to finish with 40 points to be two clear of Danny Clayton on 38, with Dean Crowe and Wayne Waywood on 37.

Others to do well were Peter Gray, Frank Battista, Peter Ellery, Neil Motion and Dean Rakich who all posted scores of 36 points.

Peter Ellery had a good day out, claiming novelties on Nos. 4 and 7 to go with his 36 points. Barry Sheppard was winner of the novelty for longest putt on No. 18.

***

Sixteen Veterans played in the 14 hole Stableford on Tuesday when Brian Simpson recorded a popular win, scoring 29 points. Simpson was one better than Ross Brody and Alan Davies, on 28.

Harry Hadfield (No. 4), Peter Gray (6), John Wray (9) and Ernie Sullivan (18) won the novelties on offer.

Young Moyses wins on Dad's big day

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 27 April 2006

THE day Jim Moyses received his Collie Golf Club life membership badge, last Saturday, was the same day that son Paul won his first club event.

Moyses (senior) and Lorraine Annandale were last Saturday presented with their life membership badges announced at the last annual general meeting. The presentation of badges was timed to coincide with the annual Life Members’ 18 hole Stableford event played last Saturday.

It was therefore fitting that Moyses (junior) should survive a countback from another promising young player, Mark Williams, to make it a big day for the Moyses family. Making it an even bigger day, old Jim - at 70 - birdied one of the hardest holes on the course, the 355m par 4 17th, for the first time in his life. And it was no fluke - a fine drive and an even finer second shot put Jim just a metre or so from the cup for a virtual tap-in birdie.

Paul Moyses won the event by virtue of a better back nine after he and Williams had finished on 39 points to be one clear of their nearest rivals.

Moyses and Williams are relatively new members of the club and have not played a lot of golf. However, both are gifted sportsmen and will no doubt make their marks on the local fairways.

Big Dean Crowe and Veteran Hugh Annandale were one behind the top two, on 38 points.

The Life Members put on a number of novelties in addition to the regular novelties and these were won by Dick Earl (3), Jim Hine (4), Chris Stewart (6), Dale Miffling (7), Kojonup visitor Robin Cavanaugh (9), Dean Rakich (13), David Pullan (14), Alan Davies (17) and Ashley Stewart (18).

Saturday’s field contained 68 golfers and the course rating was 72.

Better nett scores:

Paul Moyses, Mark Williams 39; Dean Crowe, Hugh Annandale 38; Brett Smith, Ron Annandale 37; Ron Crabbe, Clive Pullan, Dan Clayton, Jim Hine 36; Ed Riley, Greg Martin, Ross Brody 35.

The Associates’ 18 hole Stableford for the Life Members trophy last Saturday was contested by 12 players.

Kaye Farquhar led the field with 38 points to take the trophy.

Runner up, one behind the winner, with 37 points, was Judy Dowling, while Shelley Barker-May had 35 points and Bev Moyses 34.

***

Charlie Serravite, recently named in the state’s top six school principals, made it to the top of the leader board in last Thursday’s nine hole Scroungers event.

Serravite won the event on a spin of the wheel. He out spun four other golfers – Jim Moyses, Ross Brody, Ray Cooper and David Broadbent – to take top spot with 22 points.

Best of the Associates were Shelley Barker-May and Betty White with 21 points.

There were 52 men in the field and their best nett scores were returned by:

Charlie Serravite, Jim Moyses, Ross Brody, Ray Cooper, David Broadbent 22; David Laird, John Brown, Stephen Farquhar, Peter Rowe, Dean Rakich, Wayne Waywood, Steven Ireland 21.

Today’s Scroungers event will be another novelty with the men hitting off the ladies’ tees.

Fourteen players contested last week’s Tuesday Leisure Day event.

Dan Clayton was in fine touch on the day, compiling 40 points to be two points better than Ron Crabbe, on 38, and three better than Chris Dunning, on 37.

Rowe goes one better

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 20 April 2006

PETER Rowe continued to impress when winning the 18 hole sweepstakes Stableford event held at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday. Despite the Easter break, there were 41 players in the field and Rowe’s win followed hard on the heels of his second placing a week earlier.

Rowe played in the morning and his 42 points proved too much for the afternoon players to overcome, although club vice captain Dean Rakich played some excellent golf in compiling 40 points. Included in Rakich’s round was an eagle three on the first hole, giving him a four pointer to get his round away to a good start. Rowe and Rakich were the only players in the field to average better than two points a hole.

Visitor Barry Annandale was one of the five novelty winners. Annandale took the novelty on No. 9, while other novelties were won by Dean Rakich (No. 4), Ron Annandale (7), Peter Rowe (14) and Ross Brody (18).

Better nett scores:

Peter Rowe 42; Dean Rakich 40; Ian Stewart, Steve Ireland 36; Alan Kent, Ed Riley, Greg Bell 35.

The mystery partners nine hole Scroungers event last Thursday attracted 59 players and was won by the combination of Kalev Kutt and Leigh Bernardi with 36 points.

Scroungers organiser Ed Riley and mystery partner Jim Tyler were one of four combinations to finish with 32 points and took second spot on a spin of the wheel. Others on 32 were Les McGill-Chris Stewart, Betty White-Ian Annandale and Steven Ireland-Graham Williams.

Jim Stanley, who has only recently returned to the club, claimed the novelty for nearest the pin on No. 4, while John Wray (6), John Brown (9) and Judy Dowling (18) also won novelties.

Today’s Scroungers event will be a “mulligan” with full handicaps applying. In this event players can use an extra shot on each hole. The shot can be taken anywhere from tee to green but cannot be carried over to the next hole.

***

Colin Giblett scored 37 points when winning the 18 hole Leisure Day Stableford on Tuesday of last week. Giblett had three points to spare from Wayne Waywood and Clayton Flynn, on 34.

***

Ross Brody had 29 points in the Veterans’ 14 hole event contested on Tuesday of last week. He was well clear of two “Jims” – Jim Hine and Jim Tyler – who finished with 24 points.

Novelties were won by Jim Tyler (No. 4), Phil Warburton (9), Des Hebb (6) and Ray Alp (18).

Kiwi Kalev makes the Kutt

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 13 April 2006

IT HAS often been “so near and yet so far” for Collie Golf Club member Kalev Kutt.

Kutt has been close to breaking through for a win for some time so those in the clubhouse for the presentation of the Bridgestone Tyres trophies on Saturday night were not surprised that he had scored plus five and taken top spot in the 18 hole Par event.

In a close finish Kutt took top spot on a countback from Peter Rowe, who is slowly working his way back into the sport after a long absence. Both Kutt and Rowe lost strokes as a result of their rounds. Kutt reduced his handicap from 21 to 19 and Rowe started his expected move back to single figures, going from 13 to 12.

Both players received trophies, as did the vice captain, Bill Hunter, who finished third on plus four, and low marker Hudson Hopewell, who claimed the gross honours. In addition to these four trophies Bridgestone also provided eight novelties and snacks after the event.

Alan Kent, who just missed out on the trophy allocation when scoring plus three, was one of the 12 players in the field of 55 to finish plus one or better.

Better nett scores:

Kalev Kutt, Peter Rowe +5; Bill Hunter +4; Alan Kent +3; Dave Brunswick, George Davis, Jim Tyler +2; Greg Moyle, Ron Crabbe, Gary Dawson, Ken Tate, Jim Atkinson +1.

Novelty winners were Hudson Hopewell (Nos. 4 and 6), Betty White (7), Ken Tate (9), Matt Harker (10), Garry Dawson (14), Bill Hunter (17) and Les McGill (18).

In the Associates’ event, Vicky Graham scored plus one to be the top scorer.

***

Members were pleased to see hardy veteran Les McGill, who won one of the novelties last Saturday, back playing in 18 hole events after having been curtailed by health problems. After “trialling” in vets and nine hole events, Les looks to have regained fitness and had little difficulty seeing out the longer journey.

***

David Laird won the spin of the wheel to decide the nine hole Scroungers event contested last Thursday. Laird was one of four players on 18 points and won the event from John Brown, Dean Rakich and Ross Brody. One point further back in the field of 45, on 17, were Alan Banks and George Dorozenko. Dorozenko also won one of the two novelties on offer, on No. 9, while the other was won by Ron Annandale, on No. 4.

Shelley Barker-May scored 14 points to be the best of the Associates.

***

Hidden partners and novelty prizes will apply for today’s nine hole Easter Scroungers event. Head Scrounger Ed Riley is looking forward to a good attendance for what promises to be an interesting event.

***

Last week’s Tuesday Leisure Day 18 hole event attracted 11 players and required a countback to separate Clayton Flynn and Frank Battista, who each scored 33 points. Flynn won the countback. Trevor McCormick, on 30, finished third.

Sugget breaks through

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 30 March 2006

MARK Sugget reduced his handicap during Riverside and last Saturday went one better when winning the 18 hole Stableford for the Michalak, Tate and Motion trophies.

In an outstanding effort he compiled 45 points to win from Jay Robinson, who took second spot after a countback with Kalev Kutt after both had posted 43.

Sugget secured the win when scoring four pointers on each of the last two holes - Nos. 17 and 18 - to complete a 24 point back nine.  He had 89 off the stick and lost three strokes off his handicap to go with the one he lost a week earlier during Riverside. He is now off 23, and provided he keeps the ball in play off the tee should have little difficulty making further reductions.

Robinson and Kutt can both feel cheated as their 43 points were stand out scores in what was generally a low scoring day. Newly elected committee member Michael Stocks also played well to compile 41 points and there was then a three point gap to the next best score of 38.

Novelty winners were Jay Robinson (No. 4), Mark Malatesta (5), Brett Smith (7), Ron Annandale (9), Des Hebb (10), Ron Crabbe (14) and David Pullan (18).

The Associates' winner, Vicky Graham, scored 33 points, one more than Betty White's 32.

Better nett scores in the men's event:

Mark Sugget 45; Jay Robinson, Kalev Kutt 43; Michael Stocks 41; Clayton Flynn, Hudson Hopewell 38; David Pullan, Bryan Simpson, Peter Walsh 37; Ron Annandale, Hugh Annandale, Graeme Jackson, Brett Smith, Wayne Waywood, Jim Hine 36.

Jeff Crowe beat Graham Williams on a spin of the wheel after both had scored 19 points in last Thursday's nine hole Scroungers.

They were one clear of three others, on 18, including former club treasurer Ian Wanstall who was back in town to farewell his friend, the late Roger Lynn. Also on 18 were Phil Warburton and Jeff Graham, while Bryan Simpson, Wayne Waywood, Jay Robinson and Michael Stocks also won vouchers for scores of 17.

Alan Banks (No. 4) and Mark Malatesta (9) won the novelties.

Better scores:

Jeff Crowe, Graham Williams 19; Phil Warburton, Ian Wanstall, Jeff Graham 18.

***

Last week's Tuesday Leisure Day event was won by Trevor McCormick, with 35 points, one ahead of Eddie Mills, on 34.

***

Jeff Crowe maintained his good form when winning the Veterans' 14 hole event on Tuesday. Jim Hine was second, Phil Warburton third, Jim Tyler fourth and Harry Hadfield fifth.  Unfortunately, no scores were recorded on the results sheet. Novelties were won by Ed Riley (No. 4), Des Hebb (6), Jeff Crowe (9) and Harry Banks (18).

Last week's Veterans' 14-hole event was won by the consistent Phil Warburton, with 26 points, from another consistent vet, Jim Hine, on 24. Warburton (No. 4), Des Hebb (6 and 9) and Harry Hadfield (18) won the novelties.

***

Marek Golinski last Sunday hosted another successful Mining Industry Challenge at the club. As usual the event was well planned and well run, and appreciated by the big field of local and visiting golfers, many of whom travelled from the North West and the Goldfields to take part.

This event is growing in stature each year and the club is fortunate to be in a position to host it, and our thanks go to Marek Golinski for his continuing support of the club.

Second Riverside to Scott Hunter

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 23 March 2006

SCOTT Hunter recorded his second Riverside Open victory with a come from behind win in the 36 hole Stroke event at the Collie Golf Club last weekend. The event, which continues to be generously sponsored by Greg and Mary Coverley, of Pine Hauliers, and Premier Coal, was again well run and attracted a strong field of 178 golfers.

Hunter was five strokes behind former football champion Brian Peake at the start of the second round on Sunday and provided a nine stroke turnaround to go from five behind to four ahead by the conclusion.

He did this by adding a 73 to his overnight 77, while Peake, who played the back nine first, had three consecutive triple bogeys on numbers 15, 16 and 17 to all but cancel out the previous day's advantage. Peake has been a strong supporter of the Collie club's major event and this is his best effort yet to win the coveted title.

However, nothing can be taken away from the winner. Hunter proved once again that he is the best player to come out of Collie, playing his best golf when it counted most, on Sunday, to make up for a mediocre opening 18 holes. There would appear to be little doubt that Hunter, already a State amateur player, will one day have a go at the professional ranks. While there is a huge difference between pro and amateur golfers, the talented left-hander appears blessed with what it takes to make it with the big boys - he is long and accurate off the tee, and very good on the greens.

Another former Collie player, Brad White (Cottesloe), threatened to get under Hunter's guard half way trough the final round, but at the end had to settle for third place, six shots behind the winner. Jason Trainor (Pinjarra) finished fourth and Chris Exley (Melville Glades) fifth, eight and nine strokes respectively behind the winner.

Collie players again dominated the handicap section, which was won in fine style by club president Ian Stewart. Stewart overcame overnight leader, Collie's Ron Annandale, by three strokes, when finishing on 136 nett. The highlight of Stewart's 36 holes came on the back nine on Sunday when he set himself up for victory with a fine 38 off the stick. A 20 handicapper who can produce this sort of score is always going to be hard to beat and so it was on Sunday.

Annandale, who played off a 12 handicap on the weekend, backed up an impressive 68 nett on Saturday with another good round of 71 nett on the Sunday and his 139 would, under normal circumstances, have been enough to win.

Marek Golinski, a good friend of the Collie club for a number of years, finished third on 141, while Collie's Mark Sugget showed his true potential to finish fourth with 143.  Fifth was Guy Gribble (Waroona) on 144 nett.

Better overall scores:

Riverside Open: Scott Hunter 150; Brian Peake 154; Brad White 156; Jason Trainor 158; Chris Exley 159.

Nett: Ian Stewart 136; Ron Annandale 139; Marek Golinski 141; Mark Sugget 143; Guy Gribble 144.

Saturday: Best gross, Danny Ennor 75; Bill Smith 77; Best nett, Rob Van Damme 70; John McGurk 71 (countback).

Sunday: Best gross, Guy Hapke (jnr) 75; Danny Cheng 76; Best nett, John Brown 69; Phil Warburton 69 (countback).

Friday's four ball best ball par event for the TBS (Michael and Vanessa Stone) trophies attracted a field of 184 players - the biggest the take part in this event for many years - and it provided an ideal opener for the weekend event.

Popular local players Michael Stocks and Ashley Hollins combined well to score plus 10 and record a one stroke win. Runners up, on plus nine, were Melville Glades players Chris Exley and Jon Hartley, on a countback from Collie pair Clayton Flynn and Danny Clayton.

There were seven other pairs on plus eight and seven more on plus seven.

In the gross section Steven Ireland scored on one of the 18 holes but still took the gross trophy, thanks to the presence of Scott Hunter, who scored on the other 17 on the way to 38 gross points (70 off the stick). Brad White and Hunter's father and Riverside tournament director, Bill Hunter, were second on 36 points, while Pinjarra's Paul Tuckey and Chris Splatt were third with 35.

Better nett scores:

Michael Stocks-Ashley Hollins +10; Chris Exley-Jon Hartley, Clayton Flynn-Danny Clayton +9; Kalev Kutt-Peter Gray, Clive Pullan-Stephen Farquhar, Jeff and Dean Crowe, Joe and Michael Dowling, Leon Moran-David Laird, Chris Shea-Graham Jackson, Trevor Glossop-Ian Darwen +8; D. Vice captain's winning form

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 16 March 2006

COLLIE Golf Club vice captain Bill Hunter was again in winning form in the 18 hole Stableford for the Golf Down Under trophies last Saturday.

Hunter, who is tournament director for this weekend’s Riverside Open, has been busy in recent weeks but this has not had a detrimental impact on his game. Last Saturday he finished with 42 points to win in a three way countback with Leigh Bernardi and Peter Gray who also played well. Hunter lost a stroke, to go down to 10, while Gray was reduced to a 15 handicap.

Bernardi, who gives the ball a fair thump, had the best gross score of 71 and in so doing lost a shot, reducing his handicap to five. Brother Matt Bernardi was one shot adrift of the leading players, on 41 points, while Joe Italiano, Graham Jackson and Colin Giblett finished with 39.

Novelties were won by Stephen Farquhar (No. 4), Matt Bernardi (7), Kevin Ireland (9), Ray Alp (14) and Betty White (18).

McCormick bolts to single figures

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 9 March 2006

TREVOR McCormick bolted to victory and a single figure handicap when winning the Collie Outdoor World Stableford at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday. McCormick, who is now on a nine handicap, scored 44 points in the 18 hole event to be six clear of his nearest rival in what must be one of the most comprehensive of victories recorded on the local course.

A smooth swinger and timer of the ball, McCormick gets excellent distance and has a good short game.  He has been in fine recent form and the win was not unexpected as he has regularly been among the placegetters during the past month or so.

Runner-up with 38 points was Colin Giblett. Playing early in the morning, and avoiding the temptation to use the driver off the tee too often, Giblett had an average front nine of 14 points, but picked up on the back nine and blitzed the finish with five straight pars on 14-18 to record a superb 24 points coming home, for a one point

Greg Bell recorded a double when winning the novelties for nearest the pin on numbers 7 and 14, while Garry Dawson was successful on No. 4.  Ed Riley and George Davis sunk the longest putts on Nos. 9 and 18 respectively.

In the Associates’ event, Kaye Farquhar scored 35 points to finish three better than Bev Moyses on 32.

Better nett scores in the men’s event: Trevor McCormick 44; Colin Giblett 38; Chris Dunning, Jim Hine 37; Kalev Kutt, Jim Moyses, Alan Davies, George Davis 36.

Michael Dowling was a one point victor in the nine hole Scroungers event contested by 65 players last Thursday. Dowling finished with 23 points to be one clear of the consistent Ron Annandale on 22. Annandale had 36 off the stick for the best gross score of the day (18 points).

Chris Bliss (No. 4) and Dave Henderson (9) won the novelties.

Shelley Barker-May was the best of the five Associates to take out cards.  She finished with 19 points.

Better nett scores in the men’s event: Michael Dowling 23; Ron Annandale 22; Peter Gray, Troy Sheppard, Ross Brody 19; Bill Hunter, Ashley Hollins, Michael Stocks, Eddie Mills, Dale Miffling, Greg Moyle, Jeff Crowe, Graham Williams 17.

No surprise as Lynn breaks through

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 2 March 2006

ROGER Lynn has been close to winning for some time so there were no surprises when he scored a one point win in the 18 hole Stableford for the Collie Primary Schools’ Principals’ trophy at the golf club last Saturday.

Lynn scored 43 points to beat Greg Bell by a shot. Lynn and Bell were followed by veteran Jim Hine, on 41, while Trevor McCormick also finished in the forties with 40 points. David Laird and the increasingly consistent Peter Walsh had 39 to also figure in the distribution of trophies.

The school principals are strong supporters of the club and it was good to see a field of 76 participate. Ron Crabbe, Chris Dunning and Charlie Serravite provided trophies down to sixth place and also put on 28 novelties, which were greatly appreciated by the big gathering of players in the clubhouse after the event.

In addition to the nett trophies, there was also a trophy for the best gross and this was won by the in form Trevor Lawrence with 31 points (77 off-the-stick), which was one better than Trevor McCormick’s 30 points.

Paul Aramini, who is now back playing regularly, showed the field a clean pair of heels in the nine hole Scroungers event played last Thursday. Aramini struck the ball well and finished with 23 points to be three better than the in form Roger Lynn, on 20.

There were 58 players in the field and Aramini also had the best gross score of 15. His good round will cost him four Scroungers’ handicap strokes – three for the win and one for the gross. Steve Ireland (No. 4) and Dick Earl (9) won the novelties.

In the Associates section, contested by five players, Gwen Tanian had 14 points to finish two better than Nancy Lynn, on 12.

The Tuesday Leisure Day 18 hole Stableford contested last week was won by Trevor McCormick with 37 points. McCormick, whose swing tempo is a joy to behold, was two better than Reg Bluett, on 35, and three better than Clayton Flynn’s 34.

A capacity crowd enjoyed Linda Hebb’s cooking at a successful seafood night held last Saturday. The condition of the clubhouse attracted a lot of praise from visitors who appreciated the new paint job completed by Troy Sheppard and his crew and the air conditioning fitted by Peter Ellery and Steve Ireland.

The club is indeed fortunate to have members who are prepared to go out of their way to make a difference. It is hoped that this enthusiasm will continue to be displayed in the lead up to the Riverside Open in late March.  A busy bee to prepare the course will be held on Sunday, March 12, and a big attendance is being sought.

Hunter wins as committee members dominate

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 23 February 2006

BILL Hunter won the Corporate Express 18 hole Par event at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday. The club’s vice-captain, and father of recent WA amateur champion Scott, was one of six committee members to finish in the top nine. Hunter had plus four to win by one stroke from club vice-president Steven Ireland, on plus 3, with treasurer Greg Bell third on plus two and captain Stephen Farquhar on plus 1.

First of the non-committee members in the top nine were the sweet swinging veteran Peter Gray and equally sweet swinging youngster Clayton Flynn, who also had scores of plus one.

Jay Robinson won two of the novelties – nearest the pin on No. 14 and longest putt on No. 18. Other novelties were won by Dave Brunswick (4), Peter Slater (7), and Jim Moyses (9).

The very much in form Betty White won the Associates’ event, with plus four, well ahead of second placed Eileen Riley, who finished square.

Better scores in the men’s event: Bill Hunter plus 4; Steven Ireland +3; Greg Bell +2; Stephen Farquhar, Peter Gray, Clayton Flynn +1; Dean Rakich, Wayne Waywood, Ken Tate, square.

Dean Crowe won a spin of the wheel for top spot in last Thursday’s nine-hole Scroungers event. Crowe and Dave Brunswick both had 20 points to be one ahead of Ray McGill, a competitive golfer who has had limited participation in club events in recent times. Alf Sanford (No. 4) and Peter Gray (9) won the novelties.

In the Associates, Cara Swan and Vicky Graham both finished with 17 points.  In the spin of the wheel, and showing no respect for seniority, Cara took the honours from her mother, Vicky.

Better nett scores in the men’s event: Dean Crowe, Dave Brunswick 20; Ray McGill 19; Eric Annandale, Brian Banks, Rob Ferris, Dave Czerniawsky, Jim Moyses, Brian Simpson, Jim Hine, Wayne Waywood, Dean Rakich 18.

The club will be the poorer for the loss of course superintendent Scott Chambers who has tendered his resignation to take up an appointment at the Harvey club. During Scott’s tenure the golf course has improved significantly despite the limited resources he has had at his disposal.

The club’s major annual event, the Riverside Open in March, will coincide with Scott’s departure.  No doubt those who play in the big event will appreciate his efforts.

Mumme wins with early round

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 16 February 2006

JOHN Mumme completed his 18 holes and had left the course before most of the field had teed off in last Saturday’s Stableford for the Rob Ferris Irrigation Cup at the Collie Golf Club. Few would have known that Mumme, who played in the morning, had already posted 42 points, a substantial target for those following him to chase.

As it turned out, no one came close. At the conclusion, the next best score in was 38 points shared by Joe Italiano and John’s nephew, Brian Banks. Italiano won the countback on the back of a better back nine. Phil Warburton and Kalev Kutt also played well to finish with 37 points for a share of fourth place.

Mumme is a regular participant in club events, both on Saturdays and midweek, but it has been some time since he has won on the weekend and his success was warmly greeted by those in the clubhouse for the presentation. His efforts were duly noted by the handicapper who took two strokes off his handicap.

Trevor Lawrence continued his recent fine form with 79 off-the-stick (29 points) to win the gross.

Phil Warburton has been in good form in recent months and at one stage last Saturday had his name on four of the novelties on offer. However, by the time the event was over, the only novelty he laid claim to was nearest the pin on No. 14. Ian Annandale (No. 4), Tony Barker-May (7), Joe Italiano (9) and Brian Banks (18) claimed the other novelties. Danny Cheng started with three good shots, with the third finishing up in the hole for an eagle three on the par five opening hole.

The course rating of 72 reflected the challenge the course presented for the field of 50 players. Course superintendent Scott Chambers, works chairman Trevor Lawrence and committee course coordinator Jim Atkinson and their assistants have the course in immaculate condition, with clearly defined light rough areas and fast greens taking their toll on wayward golf.

Better nett scores: John Mumme 42; Joe Italiano, Brian Banks 38; Kalev Kutt, Phil Warburton 37; Ross Brody, Trevor Lawrence, Clayton Flynn, George Davis 36; Ian Annandale, Alan Kent, John Michalak 35.

Betty White was the winner of last Saturday’s Associates’ event, with 36 points. She finished four ahead of Associates’ club champion Vicky Graham, on 32.

Fifty-eight players contested last Thursday’s nine-hole Scroungers event, which was won in fine style by Ian Jones. Jones scored 22 points to be two clear of Ashley Stewart, who is hitting the ball well at present and finished with 20. Danny Cheng’s 16 points (38 off the stick) was the best gross score returned, while Jim Moyses (No. 4) and Rodney Simmonds (9) won the novelties.

In the Associates’ event, contested by six players, Eileen Riley was a two point winner, finishing on 18 to be ahead of Lee Hunter, on 16.

Better nett scores in the men’s event: Ian Jones 22; Ashley Stewart 20; Peter Ellery, Peter Gray 19; Dean Rakich, Danny Cheng, Jim Hine, Rodney Simmonds 18.

Peter Gray was in outstanding form when scoring 33 points in the 14 hole Veterans’ event held on Tuesday of last week. Gray had the event won long before completing his round, finishing a whopping eight points ahead of the in-form John Mumme on 25 points. Jeff Crowe and Phil Warburton had 24 points, while on 23 were Harry Hadfield, Ray Alp and Ross Brody. Visitor Michael Warburton enjoyed his round, finishing with the second best score of the day – 27 points.

Edwards' handicap in decline

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 9 February 2006

STEPHEN Edwards was treated rather kindly when he returned to golf after a long absence.

The handicapper gave him 19 shots to play with and he made the most of them last Saturday when he was a three shot winner in the 18 hole Stableford for the Showcase Jewellers Trophy at the Collie Golf Club. His effort resulted in a two stroke reduction in handicap – to 17 – and on the form displayed he is well on the way back to the 13 handicap he achieved as a promising youngster.

Edwards’ round was highlighted by long accurate tee shots and some fine chipping. He had 20 points on the front nine and 25 on the back and his round included two four-point birdies (on Nos 8 and 14) as he went around in 82 shots.

Runner-up was Trevor Lawrence who had a fine 42 points. Lawrence, who is getting back to his best, had 74 off-the-stick and he too was penalised for the effort, losing another shot to go to a seven handicap.

Tony Barker-May spends more time on the fairways than most (note: more time off the fairways than on - TB-M) and was rewarded for his practice when scoring 39 points to take third place, one ahead of Joe Italiano, Phil Warburton and Chris Dunning who finished on 38.

Graham Williams (No. 4), Ron Crabbe (7), Trevor Lawrence (9), Michael Stocks (14) and Jim Hine (18) won the novelties.

Fifty-three players participated in the event and the course rating was 72.

Better nett scores:

Stephen Edwards 45; Trevor Lawrence 42; Tony Barker-May 39; Joe Italiano, Phil Warburton, Chris Dunning 38; Ron Crabbe 37; Ed Riley, Tom Chappell, Ashley Stewart, Kalev Kutt, Michael Stocks 36.

Betty White won the Associates’ Trophy when she scored 41 points to be five points clear of Vicky Graham, on 36, and eight ahead of Dion Tadena, on 33.

***

Eric Annandale won the nine hole Scroungers event contested by 58 players (50 men) last Thursday. However, he had to survive a spin of the wheel with Chris Shea after both players had finished with 20 points.

On a good day for the Annandales, Eric’s older brother, Ron, finished third, on 19, and also had the best gross score of 15 (39 off the stick). Visitor Roland Stenzer, who is well known to club members as one of the club’s best corporate sponsors, won the novelty for his tee shot on No. 4, while Ron Annandale achieved this feat on No. 7.

Cara Swan won the Associates when scoring 22 points. She finished three clear of her mother, Vicky Graham, and Rhonda McGill, on 19.

Better nett scores in the men’s event:

Eric Annandale, Chris Shea 20; Ron Annandale, Jeff Crowe 19; Fred Bronickis, Dave Henderson, Jim Tyler 18.

Trevor McCormick scored 41 points in the Leisure Day event played on Tuesday of last week. McCormick finished ahead of Frank Battista, on 37, in the field of ten players.

Last week’s Tuesday Veterans’ 14 hole Stableford was won by Peter Gray with 30 points. There were 22 players in the field and Gray’s winning score was two better than Dave Brunswick’s 28 points.

Peter Gray also won one of the four novelties on offer, winning the longest putt on No. 18. Other novelties were won by Les Udy (No. 4), Des Hebb (6) and Jim Tyler (9).

Sugget helps keep it in the family

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 2 February 2006

“JUST keeping it in the family” was Joe Italiano’s light hearted response following a win in last Saturday’s golf club 18 hole four ball best ball par competition for the Solstice group’s trophies.

Italiano’s regular fourball partner, Ray Cooper, decided to take on the bookies at Ascot so Italiano and brother in law Mark Sugget did battle on the golf course. Sugget, who saluted the judge for his first Saturday competition win, played a major part in the combination’s score of plus nine, which gave them victory on a count back from cagey senior citizens Phil Warburton and Jeff Crowe.

Starting on the back nine, Italiano and Sugget had halves on 10, 11 and 14 but these were negated by six wins on the other back nine holes. Sugget provided the highlights with amazing up and down wins on Nos 15 and 18 when at best halves looked likely. They started the front nine with shaky halves on 1 and 2 and looked in trouble on 3 before Italiano steadied the ship with a three metre hole saving putt. By the time they teed up on the final hole, the ninth, they had progressed to plus 10 and fortunately for them a loss on that hole did not cost them in the final analysis.

Runners up Crowe and Warburton played consistently throughout, although Warby admitted during the presentation that his mate had done the bulk of the scoring.

The top two combinations had only one shot to spare from four pairs on plus eight.

Third place, on a count back, went to Ed Riley and the smooth swinging Peter Gray who showed the benefit of a recent lesson from his son, professional golfer Chris Gray.

Roger Lynn played the shot of the day when he achieved every golfer’s dream – a hole in one. Lynn’s tee shot on the par three 14th landed on the green, bounced a couple of times and dropped into the hole. Members in the clubhouse after the event appreciated the effort and the round of drinks Lynn purchased.

In addition to the ace, Lynn also took the novelty for nearest the pin on No. 14 while these novelties on Nos. 4 and 7 were won by Chris Shea and Brian Banks respectively. Longest putts on Nos 9 and 18 were sunk by Ed Riley and Joe Italiano respectively. There were 55 players in the field.

Better scores:

Mark Sugget-Joe Italiano, Phil Warburton-Jeff Crowe +9; Ed Riley-Peter Gray, Dean Crowe-Greg Martin, Dean Rakich-Kevin Ireland, Jim Moyses-Stephen Farquhar +8; Ross Davidson-Graham Williams, Ken Woods-Matt Harker, Chris Shea-Peter Walsh, Jim Tyler-Brian Banks +7.

In addition to trophies for the first three placings in the men’s event, the Solstice group, which was represented by Ross Davidson at the presentation, also provided a trophy for the eight Associates who played an individual par event. The winner, on plus one, was Vicky Graham, who finished one better than Eileen Riley on square.

***

Fred Bronickis headed off Ed Riley when a spin of the wheel decided the nine hole open Scroungers event contested by 70 players on Australia Day.

Bronickis and Riley finished with 21 points to be one clear of third placed Dan Clayton.

Greg Bell won the gross with 16 points (38 off-the-stick).

In the Associates’ event, Betty Sheppard took the trophy with 20 points, two better than the 18 points returned by club champ Vicky Graham and the improving Rhonda McGill.

Better nett scores in the men’s event:

Fred Bronickis, Ed Riley 21; Dan Clayton 20; Greg Bell, Charlie Serravite, Kevin Ireland, Alan Davies 19; Barry Sheppard, Jim Hines, Joe Italiano, Ray McGill, Ron Crabbe 18.

Williams shades Lynn after five hole countback

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 26 January 2006

THE match committee had to check scores on the final five holes before separating first and second in the 18 hole Stableford for the Golf Box trophies at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

Eventually it was Graham Williams who took the honours over Roger Lynn after both had returned scores of 43 points - 22 on the back and 21 on the front. Taking the driver off the ground at address has obviously worked wonders for Williams who has been 'sprinting' well over the nine holes at Scroungers in recent months but has still found it difficult to hold it together over the longer journey.

However, last Saturday he proved to be a 'stayer' for a well deserved win. After a wayward tee shot on his first hole, Williams played remarkably consistent golf, which included seven pars for 22 of his 43 points, on his way to 84 off the stick.

Lynn was also in rare touch, picking up five pars and a birdie, en route to equalling Williams' score, both in points and off the stick. Like the winner, Lynn scored on every hole with the highlight being his birdie two on the par three seventh hole.

Lynn and Williams played off 19 handicaps last week but will have two strokes less to play with as a result of their performance.

Michael Stocks again showed good touch to take third place in the field of 58 players, finishing two points behind the winners on 41 points, while sponsor Paul Morgan and the consistent Matt Bernardi finished on 39 points.

Jill Burgess won the Associates' event with 38 points, winning from Kaye Farquhar on 37 and Vicky Graham on 36.

Par three nearest the win novelties were won by Reg Bluett (No. 4), Roger Lynn (7) and Jill Burgess (14), while longest putts were claimed by Clayton Flynn (9) and Ron Annandale (18).

Better nett scores in the men's event: Graham Williams, Roger Lynn 43; Michael Stocks 41; Paul Morgan, Matt Bernardi 39; Bill Hunter, Ray Cooper, Danny Clayton 37; Ron Annandale, Jim Tyler, Steve Wallace, Peter Gray 36.

***

Club captain Stephen Farquhar made it a one horse race in the nine hole Scroungers contested by 54 players last Thursday. Farquhar was in rare form, scoring a whopping 25 points to be the easiest of winners when finishing four ahead of Eric Annandale and David Laird, on 21.

In addition to the nett event, Farquhar also had the best gross score of 18 points (36 off the stick). His round included a birdie four on the par five first and six pars, which included the last four holes played (six, seven, eight and nine).

Shelley Barker-May's 16 points was the best score returned by the six Associates who participated. Alan Banks (No 4) and Rodney Simmonds (No 9) won the two novelties on offer.

Better nett scores in the men's event: Stephen Farquhar 25; Eric Annandale, David Laird 21; Dave Brunswick, Ian Annandale, Ernie Sullivan, Peter Gray 19.

***

A three way countback was needed to determine the winner of Tuesday's Leisure Day event. Policeman turned train driver Paul McCallum won the countback from the newly wed Danny Cheng and Kalev Kutt after they had finished on 36 points.

***

Brian Simpson was a popular winner of Tuesday's 14 hole Veterans' event. Simpson, who is a regular both in mid-week and Saturday events, averaged better than two points a hole in finishing on 29 points, which was too good for the consistent Phil Warburton, on 26.

Others to fare well were Alan Davies 25, Harry Banks, Jim Tyler 24, Ernie Sullivan and Harry Hadfield 23. Phil Warburton (4), Jim Hine (6), Alan Banks (9) and Alan Davies (18) won the novelties.

***

The club's 'vice squad' got what was coming for them last Saturday.

Just a week after vice president Steven Ireland and vice captain Bill Hunter, flushed with the fruits of success, had issued a 'bits' challenge to members advising all and sundry that their 'unbeaten status' was still intact they got a taste of 'humble pie'.

Last Saturday it was Ian Annandale & Michael Stocks who enjoyed bragging rights in the clubhouse, after a clinical display on the course. Full details will be published next week.

***

The clubhouse painting project received an injection of enthusiasm and support last weekend when the front of the building was painted and finishing touches were added to the hall area.

The results to date have been very impressive and members are again reminded to assist in the busy bees currently being held to try and complete the work.

Any member who can assist should see Troy Sheppard or president Ian Stewart, or simply turn up this Sunday morning when another working bee will take place.

Ireland birdies stump Annandale's eagle

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 19 January 2006

CONSECUTIVE birdies enabled Steven (“Stumpy”) Ireland to record the narrowest of victories in the 18 hole Stableford for the Brown, McCormick and Chappell trophies at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday.

Ireland had to withstand a countback after he and Ron Annandale had both posted scores of 44 points.

Despite an eagle two on the par four 11th hole, Annandale had to settle for second after Ireland, courtesy of birdie threes on the 11th and 12th holes, completed the back nine with a whopping 25 points. Annandale, who had 23 on the back nine, could have sealed an outright victory had he dropped a three-foot putt on his last hole. However, nothing can be taken from Ireland who, in addition to his back nine birdies, also had a birdie three on the eighth hole.

If ever there should have been two winners it was in this event. Ireland, playing off a 15 handicap, went around in 80 shots, while 12 handicapper Annandale had 77 off the stick. Ireland will play his next round off 13, while Annandale will be off 11.

Greg Bell on 41, and Trevor Lawrence and Dennis Cocker with 40, were also in top form in the field of 55. Lawrence proved that he is back to his best with 76 off the stick (32 points) to take the trophy on offer for the best gross score.

Nearest the pin novelties were won by Ian Stewart (No. 4), Chris Dunning (7) and Des Hebb (14), while longest putts on Nos 9 and 18 were sunk by Eric Annandale and Matt Harker respectively.

Better nett scores:

Steve Ireland, Ron Annandale 44; Greg Bell 41; Trevor Lawrence, Dennis Cocker 40; Dave Czerniaswsky, Barry Sheppard, Steve Farquhar 39; Clive Pullan, Matt Harker 38; Jim Tyler, Dean Rakich, Ray Cooper, Ian Stewart, Jeff Graham, Danny Clayton 37.

The Associates’ 18 hole Stableford contested last Saturday was won in fine fashion by Shelley Barker-May, (right).

Shelley, who with husband Tony puts a lot of time into her golf (with far more success than the old man) was rewarded for her practice with an excellent score of 44 points, well ahead of her nearest rival, Eileen Riley, on 36. The win delighted Shelley, whose ambition when she joined the club two years ago on the maximum 45 handicap was to play to a 'man's handicap' of 27. Her weekend performance fulfilled that wish, with her handicap slashed from 31 to 27.

Annette Atherton, Betty White and Kaye Farquhar finished with 34 points.

Last Thursday’s nine hole Scroungers event was won by the head scrounger himself, Ed Riley.

Riley, who is making good contact with the ball and getting more distance off the tee than he has done for a while, finished with 22 points to be two clear of George Davis and the in form Peter Walsh, on 20.

Davis, who took second spot on a spin of the wheel, must be one of the best “spinners” in the club. As Walsh was not in the clubhouse at the time of the spin, Davis was asked to spin first for himself and second for Walsh.  Davis spun 46 (two less than the maximum) for himself and followed it up with a “one” for Walsh.

The winner will have three shots less to play with when he fronts up for today’s Scroungers event, while runner-up Davis will have to have two less shots today if he is to emulate last Thursday’s score.

Leigh Bernardi won the gross with 14 points (40 off the stick), while Annette Atherton struck the ball well to be the best of the Associates with 21 points.

Better nett scores in the men’s event:

Ed Riley 22; George Davis, Peter Walsh 20; Ray Alp, Ross Brody, Clayton Flynn 18; Phil Warburton, Ashley Hollins 17.

Last week's Veterans' event was won by Des Hebb, with 29, which was two more than the 27 points compiled by Ed Riley.

The No 4 novelty was won by Alan Davies, while Jeff Crowe (6), Dick Earl (9) and Jim Hine (18) won the other novelties.

The 18 hole Leisure Day event played on Tuesday of last week was won by Michael Dowling, with 35 points. David Broadbent, Kalev Kutt and Dennis Cocker had 33 points and got a mention.

The commonly held belief among local golfers is that the Collie course is getting harder by the day.

This notion is supported by scores returned in 18 hole events during 2005. During the year the average course rating (CCR) was 71.4, compared with 70.2 for the previous year.

Committee member Troy Sheppard and his team of workers have made a good start to the painting of the clubhouse. Busy bees held last week and on the weekend have been productive with the lounge area of the clubhouse completed.

Attention is now being focused on the hall and outside walls.

A special painting bee has been called for this Sunday and all members are urged to participate, even if only for an hour or two.  Members who would like to assist with the project should contact Troy or club president Ian Stewart.

Walsh and Bernardi sizzle in the sun

PETER Walsh and Leigh Bernardi were as hot as the weather when an 18 hole stroke event was contested for the Alan Kent New Year’s Cup at the Collie Golf Club last Saturday. Walsh, the affable veteran, won the event with a fine 65 nett to shade Bernardi on 66 nett, cutting his handicap from 25 to 23 in the process.

With the mercury edging its way over the 40 degree mark, the hot conditions tested the 60 players who took out cards.

While Walsh took the major honours, Bernardi’s effort in going around in par – 72 off the stick - was a highlight and resulted in him winning the gross and also having his handicap reduced to five.

Graham Williams has steadily improved with each outing in recent weeks and he was again prominent, finishing on 67 nett, a score matched by Steve Wallace, who made the most of the cooler morning conditions. Frank Battista had 68 nett as did Stephen Edwards, a former promising club junior, making a welcome return to the fairways.

Better nett scores:

Peter Walsh 65; Leigh Bernardi 66, Graham Williams, Steve Wallace 67; Frank Battista, Stephen Edwards 68; Graeme Jackson, Joe Italiano, Ron Annandale, Trevor Lawrence, Greg Martin, Phil Warburton 71; Phil Eldridge, Tony Barker-May, Dean Rakich 72.

Dion Tadena was a four stroke winner in the Associates’ event, finishing with 67 nett. Runner-up on a countback was Eileen Riley, holding off Annette Atherton after both has finished on 71 nett.  Riley also had the Associates’ best gross of 88.

Novelties were won by Lee Hunter (No. 4), Ron Annandale (7), Shelley Barker-May (9), John Brown (14) and Des Hebb (18).

Michael Stocks made a triumphant return to golf when taking top spot in last Thursday’s nine hole Scroungers event. Stocks, who completed a greenkeeper’s apprenticeship with the club, made use of his knowledge of the local layout when compiling 22 points to finish one ahead of Ross Brody, on 21, and two better than Eric Annandale, on 20.

John Mumme had 19 points, while a quartet on 18 points – Danny Clayton, Steven Ireland, Ray Cooper and Peter Walsh – snuck into the voucher distribution.

Novelty winners were Bill Hunter on No. 4 and Brian Banks on No. 9.

Trevor Lawrence had the best gross of 13 points.

Gwen Tanian took the top spot in the Associates on a spin-of-the-wheel from Shelley Barker-May and Annette Atherton who all had 15 points.

Fifty-five men and five Associates contested the event.

***

Steve Wallace maintained his recent good form when winning Tuesday’s 18 hole Leisure Day Stableford event. Wallace had 37 points to win from Stephen Farquhar and Norm Oates, on 36.

***

Ed Riley averaged two points a hole when winning Tuesday’s Veterans’ 14 hole Stableford event.  Riley’s 28 points gave him victory ahead of Alan Davies and Phil Warburton, on 26, with Jeff Crowe fourth on 25.

Alan Davies (Nos. 4 and 9), Jim Hine (6) and Ross Brody (18) won the novelties.

Alan Kent ends 2005 on a winning note

Courtesy of the Collie Mail Thursday 5 January 2006

ALAN KENT ended 2005 in winning form when scoring a two point victory in last Saturday’s New Year’s Eve 18 hole Stableford at the Collie Golf Club. Kent, one of the club’s more colourful and popular characters, finished with 40 points to hold off veteran Les Udy, who scored 38 points in one of his better recent performances.

The event attracted a field of 47 players, an excellent turn out for the festive season. Others to perform well included Barry Sheppard, who had 37 points, to take third place. A trio comprising Alan Davies, Chris Dunning and Alan Banks finished on 36, with Tony Barker-May and Ross Brody, on 35, also claiming vouchers.

Nancy Lynn scored 36 points to be the best performer among the six Associates who participated.

Peter Walsh must have been excited by his shot on No. 4. It finished close to the pin, for the novelty on that hole, while nearest the pins were also claimed by Phil Warburton (No. 7) and Ash Stewart (14). Longest putts on Nos 9 and 18 respectively were won by the in-form Danny Clayton and Tony Barker-May.

Mark Sugget, one of the club’s hard working committee members, had a fine week on the fairways last week. Making the most of a break from work, Sugget won Tuesday’s 18 hole Leisure Day event and backed up with a second win in Thursday’s Scroungers event. In the Leisure Day Stableford he finished with 40 points to beat Steven Ireland and Danny Clayton on a countback.

Two points further back, on 38 points, was Joe Italiano who got a “mention” but no voucher in the good Tuesday field of 24 players.

***

Sugget cashed in on his good form by winning the “bits” and scoring 22 points for a one point victory in the nine-hole Scroungers event. Veteran Alan Banks was second on 21 points. Frank Battista and Steven Ireland, who is getting a lot of length off the tee, were equal third with 20 points.

Others to do well included Hugh Annandale and Graham Williams, on 19, Garry Hammond, Dean Rakich and Mark Williams, on 18. There were 50 players in the field and the best gross of the day was the 14 points scored by Trevor Lawrence. Chris Stewart (No. 4) and Wayne Waywood (9) won the novelties.

***

Last week’s 14 hole Veterans Stableford was won by Jim Tyler. Tyler finished with 30 points to be one clear of Ray Alp, Phil Warburton and Ross Brody, on 29. Peter Gray finished with 28, while Jim Hine and Bryan Simpson, on 25, also played well.

Novelty winners were Jeff Crowe (No. 4), Des Hebb (6), Jeff Bebbington (9) and Ray Alp (18).

***

Tuesday’s (3 January) Veterans event, the first of the new year, was won in very fine style by Jim Hine. Hine had 33 points to be well ahead of his nearest rival, Hugh Annandale, who was five adrift, on 28. Others to figure in the finish were John Mumme and Ron Annandale, on 27, Ed Riley, Les Udy, Phil Warburton and Ross Brody, all on 26.

Ian Jones won the novelty on No. 4, Des Hebb on 6, John Mumme on 9 and Ron Annandale on 18.

***

One of the club’s many school teacher members, Dean Rakich, took advantage of the holiday break to play in Leisure Day on Tuesday 3 January by winning the voucher on offer, with a score of 36 points.  Steve Wallace, on 33, and Wayne Waywood, 32, also got a mention.

***

The good holiday fields are expected to continue on Saturday when the first of the new year events, the Alan Kent New Year’s Cup, takes place. A time sheet is on the board for the 18 hole stroke event.

The usual midweek events will also be played next week, with Veterans 14 hole Stableford and Leisure Day 18 hole Stableford on Tuesday and nine hole Scroungers on Thursday.
