The
17th
Hole
|
Men:
355m par 4, rated 3
Ladies: 365m par 5, rated 11 |
|
The
17th hole reverses the scorecard imbalance created by the
12th - a par 4 for men and par 3 for ladies - and is a par
4 for men and par 5 for ladies.
Although
the fairway is straight, the tee area is slightly offset,
making it play a little like a left dogleg.
|
|
Trees
screen the left of the fairway from the tee, making the
drive more intimidating than it should be - particularly
for those who fade and slice the ball.
The
tendency is to drive right, where sandy rough, trees and
shrubs welcome the ball.

|
In
fact, if players miss the fairway, lies tend to be far
better in the left rough.
This
area remains
quite well grassed even in summer, and unless the ball is
too far left the green can be approached without worrying
too much about overhanging trees. |
|
The
main slope on the green is from back left down to front
right, but like all Collie greens it is hard to hold
without a high approach shot.
However,
the 17th seems to be one of the easier greens to putt on
the back nine, and there is little danger either at the
back or to the sides as long as the approach is not too
wayward. |
