The
13th
Hole

The 13th - unlucky for some, they say, and it often proves
to be the case if the tee shot is not as straight as an
arrow.
The bush either side is lost ball territory waiting
for a hook or slice. Even a slight fade from the straight
and narrow will fail to make the dogleg and disappear into
the trees on the corner, while a slight draw will end up
in a dirty lie.
But at least there's a view of the green
from there.
|
|
A
right hand dogleg of almost 90 degrees, the 13th requires
a drive to the corner, no more, and no less.
Big drivers
can easily run out of fairway, but go short and the green can
neither be seen nor, generally, reached - although a big
fairway wood slice around the corner has been known to do the trick for the
desperate!

However,
from the perfect approach position, above, the 13th
doesn't present too many problems - no more than a mid
iron to the big green.
Just avoid the
huge trees and
associated sandy lies to the right and left. |
|
The
green is raised, undulating, and hard to hold, sloping
down from back to front - and to the sides.
There are few
easy putts on the 13th, and most players will be pleased
to walk off with two with the flat blade on the fast surface. |
