The
9th Hole
|
Men:
319m par 4, rated 10
Ladies: 306m par 4, rated 10 |
|
Many
members will tell you that the most difficult thing about
the 9th hole is Heartbreak Hill, the steep path which
leads from the 8th green up to the 9th tee.
Even
though it is only a walk of 50m or so, if you have started
your round on the 10th, and it is a warm day, Heartbreak
Hill will turn your legs to jelly!
But it is well worth
the effort to take in the beautiful display of flowers on
the way. |
|
The
9th is a reasonably short par 4 of 319m - with very little
advantage for the ladies - played from an elevated tee.
The
hole doglegs left, and the fairway slopes down from left to
right, so the ideal tee shot is a draw - but even a
perfect draw has been known to run off into the right hand
rough once the slope has taken hold of it. |

|
However,
there is peril to both sides of the fairway, as either a
hook or slice can wind up in deep trouble among the tall
trees and poor lies. And a slice will bring the bunker to
the right front of the 9th green into play.
On
balance, the left is the side to play - the only trouble
is that it is very difficult to put the ball there. |
|
Once
the bunker is negotiated, the green is perhaps one of
Collie's easiest, without the undulations which
characterise so many of Collie's greens.
We
hope you have enjoyed the front nine at Collie Golf Club.
If you have timed your round right, the bar will be open
for some liquid refreshment before you tackle the back
nine! |
