Men:
455m par 5, rated 18
Ladies: 455m par 5, rated 2 |
|
The
opening hole at the Collie Golf Club is a downhill par 5
which, at 455m from both men's and ladies tees, is
rated the easiest hole for men - and the second hardest
for the fairer sex.
A definite birdie opportunity for big
hitters. |
|
A
right hand dogleg with a fairway which slopes downhill and
to the right, the tee shot is best played well to the left
- as the big trees which mark the dogleg on the right
hungrily swallow up sliced drives.
The
out of bounds along Mungalup Road to the left doesn't
really come into play until the second shot. |

|
Down
the fairway it remains good practice to stay a little left
of centre. Although there is out of bounds here, trees
generally get in the way of hooked shots before they find
their way to the road.
Lies
off the fairway to the right tend to be a little worse
than those to the left, particularly in the hot weather,
when playing from the right can be like playing from
concrete. |
|
The
approach is to a small green, with two bunkers to the
right and a small, almost hidden grass bunker to the back.
The
ideal approach is from the middle of the fairway, as shots
from the right entail a risky shot over the bunker to a
small target. And it
is particularly important to avoid overclubbing the
approach, as anything over the back of the green can be in
big trouble among the trees. |
