About Collie

Our town of Collie isn't just a great place to play golf.

It is a great place to live, work and invest, and a great place to visit.

Nestled in the Collie River Valley, with a beautiful river defining its name and character, enjoying real seasons, with a colourful spring, warm summer, crisp autumn and gorgeous misty winter, Collie has been described as the perfect country town.

Residents would agree.

Big enough to have just about every facility anyone could require.

Small enough to get to know people.

Slow enough to take the city stress right out of your system.

Early morning in Neath Park, north Collie

One day, great artists will discover the outstanding quality of light in Collie. For now, we can keep it to ourselves.

The start of the 2003 Collie-Donnybrook race. The race has been held annually since 1925.

The Collie-Donnybrook cycle race has been held annually since 1925, and attracts riders from throughout Western Australia.

200km south of Perth, and about 50km from the coast, Collie's 10,000 or so residents enjoy an enviable lifestyle.

Living in Collie, there is always so much to do and see that it's hard to find the time to do and see it all.

And the great thing is, it is all totally, easily and cheaply accessible.

Stand in the main street, where there's pretty much all the shopping you need, and you are within a short walk of two golf courses, a tennis club, a bowls club, an Olympic size swimming pool, an excellent library, cricket grounds, a footy oval.

Then there's the trotting track, racegrounds, basketball courts, the showgrounds, a hockey field.

A dozen or so restaurants, five or six hotels, a couple or three motels.

Terrific public and private schools.

Motor racing fans are almost too well catered for, with a first class motor racing circuit, Collie Motorplex, and a separate speedway track, both just minutes from town ..... but wait, there's more!

Collie is full of pretty cottages, many of which have been beautifully renovated.

Housing in Collie is attractive and affordable, with homes available from under $150,000. Collie is full of pretty cottages, many of which have been beautifully renovated.

Soldiers Park, in the centre of Collie, is bordered by the Collie River

Soldiers Park, in the centre of Collie, is bordered by the river and home to geese, ducks and coots - as well as free gas barbecues, plenty of seating, and shady picnic spots.

Nature lovers and picnickers will enjoy a delightfully treed and shady riverside park right in the middle of town, where you'll meet friendly geese, ducks and coots.

Two kilometres out to the edge of town there's beautiful rural land, and plenty of inexpensive small acreages.

There's a scenic drive along the Collie River just minutes from town where you'll find yourself a perfectly private and quiet picnic spot by the rapids.

A little further, stunning Wellington Dam and the spectacular return route through Honeymoon Pool offer many quiet and beautiful escapes from the rat race.

If there's someone in your favourite spot, you'll easily find another - we don't bother with crowds down here.

Or make a day of it and take a round trip through the gorgeous Ferguson Valley, taking in some of the local wineries and beautiful scenery along the way.

The new Margaret River, they say.

The rural life is just two minutes from the town centre

Collie offers virtually all the 'city' facilities and services families require - but the rural area is only two minutes from the centre of town.

Magnificent jarrah furniture on display during the Griffin Festival

The annual Griffin Festival, sponsored by Griffin Coal, offers train rides, art and craft shows, music, drama .... and local products, such as this high quality yet inexpensive jarrah furniture.

Significant employers in the region include  Griffin Coal, Premier Coal, Western Power, and Worsley Alumina.

But increasingly, tourism is also making its contribution to the local economy, and with good reason.

Apart from its discovery as a prime wine producing region, our area is also developing a strong reputation for the production of an outstanding range of arts, crafts and culinary products.

Call us biased if you will .... but we think Collie has it all.

Collie is a great place to live, work and invest - and a great place to spend a day or three as well.
